The Information Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day activities of CASF through USO programs and Services during an assigned shift.
Monitor USO lounge and perform general housekeeping and organizational tasks within the lounge, hallway, and storage room
Interact with patients; assist with Internet usage and placing morale calls; interact with CASF staff
Conduct in-briefings to provide information on USO lounge services for newly arriving service members
Obtain information on patient levels, current and projected; act upon this information by ensuring adequate levels of supplies
Learn and become proficient in administering and conducting the United Through Reading Program, to include packing and mailing items
Update and manage computer files, logs, and other record keeping methods as needed due to receipt and/or distribution of items
Receive, unpack, and restock inventory items, as well as current newspapers, magazines, books, posters, bulletins, and flyers
Ensure that coffee is always plentiful by checking, cleaning, and filling coffee machine
Ensure adequate, up-to-date information is maintained in files and throughout the office
Greet, brief, and interact with distinguished visitors; provide DVs with a tour of the USO and discuss the CASF USO history and mission; answer any questions
Cultivate a personal knowledge of travel and activities within Germany
Organize USO programs, i.e., Bar-B-Qs, food nights, ceremonies, and games
Assist the Manager in training newly hired employees and volunteers
Be knowledgeable on the USO, its history, and its mission
Adhere to the USO mission and advance its cause at the workplace and in the community
Represent the USO professionally
Contribute to a friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable atmosphere
Performs other duties as assigned by Center Manager and/or Director
High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Up to 3 years supervisory experience in retail, customer service, recreation facility or related role Relevant experience in a military, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. General knowledge of military community preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications as well as knowledge of various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Fluency in English with the ability to speak, read, and write in the language of the host and neighboring countries preferred.
Ability to work alone
Ability to lift objects up to thirty (30) pounds
Ability to effectively operate a DVD video camera and player
Ability to complete basic clerical tasks
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid United States passport and SOFA status, including SOFA driver’s license.
Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission to support active duty military and their families
Work at least one of every three Saturdays and occasional late evenings as needed throughout the year to include holidays
Must be able to work the 9:00 am – 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm shifts on different days as well as Saturday shifts as scheduled by the Manager. Must be very flexible with scheduling and willing to cover additional shifts if requested by the Manager
Must work an average of 21 hours every week, as scheduled by the Manager
Must participate in occasional special events, i.e., DV visits to CASF or USO programs such as dinners and breakfasts.
This is a part-time position based on 21 hours per week located in Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Preferences will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location.
